Cojute - Metapan 100-85 The most surprising game was the first loss of Metapan (4-1) in Cojutepeque on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked Cojute (3-3) 100-85. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Metapan. Cojute dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Metapan's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Chase Berry (198-1998, college: Utah Tech) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 18 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997, agency: The French Family Consulting) who added 25 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists during the contest. Four Cojute players scored in double figures. Nicaraguan guard Deikel Sanchez (-1996) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and Amilcar Regalado (186-1996) scored 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Metapan's coach Reynaldo Corrales rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cojute moved-up to fourth place. Metapan at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. Cojute are looking forward to face Santa Ana (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Metapan will play against the league's second-placed Santa Tecla (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The best player for the winners was guard Marcus Feagin (193-1991) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 20 rebounds. American guard Anthony Strickland (196-1993, college: EMU) chipped in 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and guard Baltazar Castellon (185-1993) added 18 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Santa Ana and four Santiagueno players scored in double figures. Santa Ana moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Quezaltepeque. Loser Santiagueno keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Brujos and Fantasmas. Santa Ana will meet at home higher ranked Cojute (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Santiagueno will have a break next round. Quezaltepeque smashed Brujos 92-64. Quezaltepeque had a 38-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Brujos' players. The winners were led by Dominican forward Cristian Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) supported him with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Quezaltepeque players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds by Erick Yan (-2000) did not help to save the game for Brujos. Dominican forward Juan De Los Santos (193-2002) added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Quezaltepeque went down to eighth position due to points difference, which they share with Santa Ana. Brujos at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Santiagueno and Fantasmas. Quezaltepeque will play against higher ranked Fantasmas (#5) in San Vicente in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Brujos will have a break next round.
